About Kerala Badminton Club
Kerala Badminton Club (KBC) was a humble beginning in the year 2013. It all started when the founding members had few spare time in the morning after dropping the kids in school. The members agreed to meet at Poppintree Sports Centre, Ballymun basically to play Badminton; however, the word spread and soon it became the hub and hangout place, not only to play Badminton but also to greet and socialise. KBC came into being.
Kerala is a southern state in India, and the founding members are from that linguistic background, hence the name Kerala Badminton Club. Our ethos is to promote Badminton, and there is no limitations or barriers for anyone to join the club. To date, we have players from the different ethnic background.
We see sports as a platform for social inclusion and integration. Even, players from the local community join us for a game now and then and we goes to other clubs to play. We meet on weekdays in the morning hours, as it suits most of the members. The management and staff of Poppintree Sports Centre have always extended excellent support to carry on with our sports activities.
KBC is growing, in terms of numbers and also in organising various activities. In October 2021, we have started the KBC Junior Club in Poppintree in collaboration and support with Badminton Ireland. We offer Badminton coaching sessions for all kids above eight years of age, 90 kids receiving traing each week.
KBC has also been organising the All Ireland Badminton Tournament each year and getting a good response from players around. KBC members are also active participants in Dublin District Badminton Tournaments and have consecutively won many medals in different divisions. We also have registered with Badminton Ireland and follow their guidelines and policies.
